Cost Estimate for Repairing Homes in Belot...

This is just a rough estimate for the 12 homes in Belot based on our trek into town yesterday to locate supplies. This is an estimate for material, not the cost of hiring local labor. We would prefer to hire local labor since so many people are in dire circumstances and need to be able to have an income to feed their families. We will ask each homeowner to also help and we will help, pastor will help, elders of the church will help, and some other missionaries have also offered to help as well without pay. So for labor, probably we can get by with about $100/day depending on the speed we are able to work (if we work on just one home a day or multiple). Of course if we have funds for more each day for labor we could work faster

We will also need some money for set-up such as tools and getting the material into the locations, etc. But..we are going to start on the process with these 12 homes and work from there. We also have plans for water in the works and Ron is gone into town to buy more beans today. Some local dentists and doctors from Petionville that have generously volunteered their time in Belot on clinics previously have contacted us to assist with some donations and possibly with food and auquatabs to make water safe. Praise God! It's so wonderful to see people coming together to help as many in need as possible. I want to say what we consider the "upper class" sometimes are harshly judged in this country and especially by mission organizations and NGO's.  Please say a prayer for ALL that are helping on the ground from the local farmer, missionary, large and small humanitarian aid workers, all the way to the rich politician or business owner.  AND...thank you! Thank you! Thank you! To all that are stateside and from other countries assisting from afar. We NEED you!!

Rosemarie Serpahin that has two boys and one girl. Cost estimate is: $2,000.00 for supplies. The home is completely destroyed. This is one of our first priorities. She is a leader in the church and is in desperate circumstances for her family.

Sorry- I don't have a picture of the school at this time :(

If you or you work or church group or a group of friends would like to "sponsor" a specific home, please let me know and we will then take them off the list and move onto the next homes that we have not assessed yet.

We are working on sending a scouting group to Nouvelle Terrain on Sunday and Monday. We know that the church has come down and some homes, but will post information when we have it. I believe Ron will go with that group since I will be hiking in with part of the medical team when they come on the 13th (pending our ability to get there).

We also have a contact that is offering some space on a ship for us to bring in to one of the really hard hit areas where people have NO food or water or shelter. Please join us in prayer for our involvement in other areas. We want to help the best that we can with the resources that come in. It seems to make sense that we focus on this area, but I will say that my heart is certainly torn because the bulk of our 14 year old son Billy's family is in those harder hit areas. We have not been able to contact them yet and it is emotionally a hard thing to be on this side of the island when they are there suffering.

We have 5 Haitian children and actually Billy is the only one that has a close and strong relationship with his biological family. He was older when he was adopted and we absolutely love his family. Two of our children, we have never been able to locate their family since their adoption. The other two, we have a distant relationship with their family for a range of reasons that are somewhat complicated to explain.

I'll post additional information about other ways we are assisting to help as well. More to come.....
